Putting cancer into words - personal stories

Posted by Annie Keane, Deputy Director, in Listen up, June, 2020

Personal stories about cancer and radiotherapy

Here patients and a researcher share their personal, moving and often funny stories about cancer to inspire more conversations about radiotherapy and research.

The stories are short, powerful and to the point.

Time changes as Jackie gets a new diagnosis and treatment and remembers how important people are.
Anthea, a researcher, reflects on the connections she has with her patients.
The sounds that keep Nic going through treatment.
Humour and honesty, Sally’s way through and back to her new self.
The small things become big things for Sharon over 25 visits.
Tracy finds herself in the centre and everyone gets a hat.

This project was delivered by Vocal, radiotherapy researchers from the NIHR Biomedical Research Centre and Contact. These poems were developed through creative workshops run by Nathaniel Hall. For more information see the case study.
